It’s a Big Week for Our Feline Friends

This week gives us two chances to celebrate our feline friends. Today—Monday, October 27, 2025—is National Black Cat Day, a day to spotlight sleek house panthers and bust old myths. Wednesday—October 29, 2025—is National Cat Day, a nationwide moment to honor cats of every color and encourage adoption.

Why a special day for black cats?

Black cats have carried superstitions for centuries, and that baggage still affects adoptions. National Black Cat Day invites us to flip the script: share your black-cat photos, tell their goofy, loving stories, and remind friends that personality—not color—predicts the perfect match. If you’ve been thinking about adopting, consider a black cat; shelters and rescue partners often see them linger longer, even though they’re just as affectionate (and photogenic!) as any other cat.

What National Cat Day means

National Cat Day (Oct 29) is a feel-good reminder to spoil your own cat and to look out for cats still waiting in shelters. Founded to raise awareness about adoption, it’s a great time to donate supplies, volunteer, or share adoptable cats from your favorite rescue.

Easy ways to celebrate

  • Show some love. Post your cat’s story, especially if they’re senior, special-needs, or gloriously black. Encourage a friend to meet their future “soul cat.”

  • Do a wellness check. Book that overdue exam, refill meds, and check microchip info.

  • Enrich their world. Rotate toys, add a cardboard scratcher, or try a food puzzle for a brainy treat.

  • Support local rescues. Share an adoption post, drop off food or litter, or send a small donation in honor of a beloved cat.

Keep it safe around Halloween

With doorbells, décor, and candy in the mix this week, give your cat a quiet room during trick-or-treat hours, swap real candles for battery tea lights, and keep chocolate/xylitol treats sealed away. A few simple steps keep celebrations stress-free for whiskered family members.

Two Holidays, One Mission

This week, let’s celebrate the cats we love and open doors for the ones still waiting. From our team at Special Souls Feline Foundation—happy National Black Cat Day and National Cat Day! 🖤🎃🐾
