Year One + Beyond

2025 Annual Report with Q1 2026 Update

A MESSAGE FROM OUR FOUNDER

When I officially launched Special Souls Feline Foundation on January 2, 2025, I had a simple but ambitious goal: to ensure that senior and special-needs cats could find loving homes by removing the financial barriers that often prevent their adoption.

Just over a year later, I'm humbled and grateful to share that we did exactly that—and more.

In our first year, we sponsored 13 cats through our partner rescue organizations. Four of those cats found their forever homes in 2025, and we've already celebrated three more adoptions in the first quarter of 2026. We've weathered medical emergencies, covered life-changing surgeries, and built a community of supporters who believe, as I do, that every cat deserves a chance at a happy, healthy life—regardless of age or medical needs.

This report celebrates what we accomplished together in 2025 and looks at the momentum we're carrying into 2026. Every sponsored cat, every adoption, every emergency vet visit we covered was made possible by the generosity of individual donors who chose to show up for cats who are too often overlooked.

Thank you for being part of this journey.

With gratitude,

Holly
Founder, Special Souls Feline Foundation

OUR MISSION

Special Souls Feline Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping senior and special-needs cats find loving homes by alleviating the financial challenges often associated with their care.

We partner with rescue organizations to connect compassionate adopters with these overlooked cats, providing the necessary support for a successful adoption. Financial assistance is offered to adopters to cover the costs of food, supplies, medication, and medical care, ensuring these cats receive the attention and resources they need to thrive.

By bridging the gap between rescue organizations and potential adopters, Special Souls works to ensure every cat, regardless of age or health, has the opportunity for a happy, healthy, and well-loved life.

OUR PARTNERS

Kitty Bungalow – Charm School for Wayward Cats

Kitty Bungalow is a nonprofit community cat organization and kitten socialization facility in South Los Angeles. Their programs serve the most vulnerable felines, including community cats needing TNR (trap, neuter, return), undersocialized cats seeking alternate adoption placement, and homeless kittens from the streets or overcrowded shelters. Their dedicated volunteers and foster parents use fear-free socialization techniques to take street cats "from hiss to home."

Kitten Rescue

Founded in 1997, Kitten Rescue has grown into one of Los Angeles' largest and most impactful cat welfare organizations. Their passionate, volunteer-led team rescues and places over 2,000 cats and kittens into loving homes each year and has found forever families for more than 35,000 cats to date.

HOW WE'RE FUNDED

In 2025, Special Souls was funded entirely by individual donations from supporters who share our belief that every cat deserves a chance.

We operate with zero administrative overhead. Every dollar donated goes directly to sponsoring cats: their medical care, food, supplies, and ongoing support for their adopters.

The Power of Monthly Giving

A special thank you to our monthly donors. Recurring monthly gifts—no matter the amount—provide the reliable, predictable support that allows us to plan ahead, respond quickly to emergencies, and confidently say "yes" when a rescue partner brings us a cat who needs sponsorship. Monthly giving is one of the most impactful ways to support our work, and we are deeply grateful to the donors who have made this commitment.

CARRYING MOMENTUM INTO 2026

The first quarter of 2026 has already been remarkable, with three more adoptions and a powerful reminder of why our work matters.

Q1 2026 Adoptions:

  • Thai & Tommy (adopted together)

  • Leah

Thai & Tommy: A Bonded Pair's New Beginning

Two of our sponsored cats—now known as Thai and Tommy (formerly Pad Thai and Tom Yum)—found their forever home in the best possible way: their foster family fell in love with them and made it official. At just two years old, this bonded pair had been waiting for adopters willing to take them both on, knowing that each would need eye surgery.

Their foster-turned-forever family said yes.

Special Souls committed to a $10,000 sponsorship to cover their surgeries, ongoing medication, food, and veterinary care. Both cats had their eye surgeries in March 2026, which we covered in full, and both are recovering beautifully. This is exactly the kind of compassionate adoption Special Souls exists to support—and it's made possible by donors who believe every cat deserves a chance.

Fig: When the Community Showed Up

Fig's story began in 2025, when she was adopted alongside Blanche. Both cats have FeLV (feline leukemia virus), a highly contagious disease among cats that typically requires FeLV-positive cats to live only with other FeLV-positive cats. By adopting Blanche and Fig together, their adopter gave them something invaluable: lifelong companionship with a friend who shares their diagnosis. It's the kind of thoughtful, compassionate adoption that Special Souls exists to support.

In March 2026, Fig had a medical emergency. She was rushed to the emergency vet hospital with labored breathing and admitted in critical condition.

Special Souls was able to step in immediately and commit to covering her emergency care, so her adopter could focus entirely on Fig's recovery—not the mounting medical bills. The diagnosis turned out to be a severe asthma attack, and Fig is now home, on medication, and doing much better.

This moment reminded us why Special Souls exists: to be there when cats need us most, and to ensure that their adopters never have to choose between their cat's health and their financial wellbeing.

LOOKING AHEAD: 2026 GOALS

As we continue building on the foundation laid in our first year, we're focused on growing Special Souls' capacity to help more cats while maintaining the personal, mission-driven approach that defines us.

Our 2026 Goals Include:

  • Launching our merchandise line — a mix of mission-driven pieces and just-for-fun cat merch — to create a new revenue stream, expand our community's reach, and give supporters another way to show their love for Special Souls

  • Building financial reserves so we can respond quickly to emergencies like Fig's without strain

  • Growing our donor community through strategic outreach and engagement

  • Expanding our partnerships to reach more senior and special-needs cats in need

  • Pursuing grant funding to diversify our revenue and support long-term sustainability
